Top 5 Reasons I Like 2014

1- I always do better in even-numbered years. While 21 was fun in ’07, I am quite certain it wasn’t my most productive year yet (unless you take into account my ability to keep a 3.0 whilst spending most of my days [booze] cruising the Charleston harbor :/ 🙂 ].

2- I have SEVERAL fun weddings to look forward to…which means reunions, champagne, and fabulous Instagram photos galore. #bringit

3- I know I will go to Europe at least once this year. Makes the whole newly-adopted 40 hours/week thing bearable.

4- I love my living situation. New York, you know I love ya…but damn it feels good to have a washer and dryer.

5- I still have two years before I need to have my sh*% completely together.

Top 5 Reasons To Travel Alone

1- Travel can bring out the the worst, and I mean the worst, in a person–particularly the more high-maintenance types. Do yourself a favor and leave the blowdryer addicts, public transit-phobes, and the A/C divas at home.

2- You don’t have to go see the Statue of Liberty, Eiffel Tower, or Tower of London for the 89723128th time. For anyone who travels regularly, this can be the worst part of bringing along newbs. Go solo and you have the time to search out a city’s hidden gems!

3- No one has to know that you ate at McDonald’s on your trip abroad.

4- You’re forced to make an effort with the locals…which can (and does!) produce lifelong friends. In addition, these friends are more likely to know of the best spots to visit on your trip!

5- It’s unbelievably liberating. There aren’t words to describe the confidence/pride you feel after navigating your way, completely alone, through multiple countries, airports, train depots, ports, bus stations, and subway systems. I-n-d-e-p-e-n-d-e-n-t, yea you know what that means!

Top 5 Ways To Ch-Ravel (Cheaply Travel…get it?)

1- Throw privacy, caution, and fornication to the wind and stay in a hostel. You may have to stay (alone) in one tiny twin bed in a room with six other people…but it will be for under 30 bucks a night.

2- Refuse to check luggage and forcibly squeeze all of your belongings in a carry-on case. Traveling in the summer makes this humanly possible…extra points for losing weight and buying smaller clothes.

3- Build character by buying the cheap seats. Ya know, the ones where you stand for most of the six hour train ride. Been There/Done That.

4- Flirt like you’ve never flirted before. Seriously—instant 75% off all food and drinks. Married? Just divide and conquer.

5- Dine and ditch. Kidding!! But do take your food to go…you save major bucks on tipping & food is often cheaper as takeout abroad (weird, right?). Plus, what’s more romantic than sharing a crêpe within plain sight of La Tour Eiffel…

Top 5 Reasons I Rather Like March

1- There is the slight chance you may not have to wear a scarf or gloves out. Winning!

2- All the hideous, black, and depressing puffer jackets in New York City disappear! Hooray for the rebirth of regular shaped people!

3- St. Patty’s Day. No, no no…not because of the excessive drinking and otherwise juvenile behavior this holiday brings to your front stoop. I just look really good in green.

4- Paris Fashion Week….’cause I’m fancy like that.

5- It’s not February.
