Top 5 Reasons I Date Foreigners

1- When they say something you don’t like, it’s easy to chalk it up to translation issues.

2- The likelihood of traveling somewhere exotic is increased tenfold.

3- I am determined for my children to have dual passports.

4- They oftentimes know how to cook interesting and unusual food…excluding the Brits, naturally.

5- Who doesn’t want to be told they’re beautiful in multiple languages?!

Top 5 Things I Love About Germany

(As I sit in Berlin)

1- Things happen on time. As a fiercely punctual person, this is music to my (always waiting) ears!

2- You roll up everywhere in a Benz….flyest taxis around, for sure.

3- Every male sounds like Hans and Franz…let the giggles ensue.***

4- You get to say “Guten Morgen!!” every.single.day—I don’t know about you, but I call that a win.

5- Everyone speaks English…because lawd knows I could never pronounce half of these words. Exactly how many letters can one add to a word before it becomes stream-of-consciousness mind ooze?

***Yes, I realize they were supposed to be Austrian…but the language is still German!

Top 5 Words That Aren’t Used Enough

1- Cacophony- Today, as I waited for a train in Union Square, I was assaulted by the nonstop cacophony in the station.

2- Lascivious- While it is no doubt lascivious in nature, I can’t help but adore Game of Thrones.

3- Loathsome- There is nothing more loathsome than the marriage of strong opinions and weak thoughts.

4- Unbecoming- Don’t talk with food in your mouth darling, it’s unbecoming.

5- Bemused- I was bemused by tonight’s exhibit…which may or may not indicate its worth.

Top 5 Things That Don’t Creep Me Out…That Should.

1- Fair Food. Yea, yea, yea…say what you will about the cleanliness, fat content, and all around sketchiness of those technicolor food trucks…then pass me a funnel cake, please.

2- Living in a city where I don’t speak the language. I’ve done this several times and ya know what? It’s really not that scary. You’d be surprised what you can communicate with a little bit of hand motions and some improv dance moves.

3- Nudity. Long gone are the middle school days of crouching behind a love seat to change clothes and/or the infamous locker room paranoia. Ain’t nobody got time for that.

4- Hot dogs. I know that their origins are a bit suspect…but they taste like childhood, baseball games, and heaven.

5- Random (tasteful) compliments from strangers. Words that are ok: beautiful, pretty, stylish, fun.  Words that are not ok: slang for any body part. Gross!
